Panama Canal was earlier known for international shipping but in modern times this 8th wonder has evolved as one of the most popular travel destinations across American continents. It offers the most exclusive canal trip and the water journey that gives wow experience to the travelers.

It took long years to develop the 48 miles Panama ship canal, which was also one of the most difficult and the largest engineering projects ever taken hence, it is termed as the 8th wonder of the world. After a series of attempts, halts and thousands of deaths, this project was finally successful in 1914, and was open for international maritime trade thereafter.

When the joint venture deed with the United States government expired, Panama government gained full control over the canal transit and the toll since 1999. Not only merchant ship transitions but numerous tourism related activities was promoted by the Panama government and as of today, Panama Canal has become the strongest economic source of the country and the recommended travel destination of America.

As this canal connects the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, it has replaced the treacherous and long route via the Cape Horn or Strait of Magellan. A ship travelling from San Francisco to New York travels 14,000 miles via the South American tip Cape Horn but if it passes through Panama Canal, then it has to travel only 5,900 miles.

The American Society of Civil Engineers has named Panama Canal as one of the seven modern wonders of the world as it is an engineering feat of all times. Teddy Roosevelt, the famous US personality, played major role in the construction of this canal. This newest travel destination offers partial canal transit as well as full canal transit, where one could get an opportunity to see the military vessels, big passenger ships, tankers and passing freighter. One could witness the amazing wildlife and beautiful jungle scenery. Traversing through the canal, lake and the 3 set of locks will make this 8-9 hours of mysterious journey a beautiful lifetime memento.
